Hi, Clean Air Kate here. I’m really enjoying the summer with my Pals. We are out and about every day! Summer is also a time when lots of fresh and organic fruits and vegetables are available at farmers’ markets. I love organic food. Not only is it good for the environment because it’s pesticide-free, but it tastes good too!
I recently visited D Acres farm in New Hampshire to learn more about organic farming.

Josh Trought of D Acres shows us a compost pile. Compost is added to the soil to help plants and vegetables grow.
Organic farming is better for the environment. It reduces the pollution in the soil, air and water, so it’s safer. You and your family can be organic farmers too. All you need to do is start your own garden at home. Even First Lady Michelle Obama and her family planted a garden at the White House because they like eating healthy too!
The food that grows on organic farms are rich in vitamins, nutrients, and minerals that help you grow strong. If you can’t plant your own garden, you can go to farmers’ markets around the country for farm fresh food. If you live in New York City, Greenmarket has farmers markets in all the boroughs. If you’re in California, check out the Santa Monica Farmers Market. In Chicago pay a visit to the Green City Market. They even have farmers markets in Europe and Asia! It’s nice to get some fresh air as you go from booth to booth buying your favorite fruits and veggies.
Here are some photos from the New Rochelle Farmers Market. Look at all this yummy food!
Organic food is good for the environment and good for you. Happy eating!
Your friend,
