Pink Coral Laurel Loves the Great Barrier Reef

G’day Mates, it’s Pink Coral Laurel!  Did you know that in the Great Barrier Reef there are over 1,500 species of fish? According the World Wildlife Fund in Australia, there are over 359 types of hard coral, and 175 bird species.

Look at this beautiful picture of a sea turtle swimming in the ocean, this is one of 90 threatened species in the Reef due to global warming and pollution.  I need your help to protect this marine wonderland.  Here are a few tips for things you can do to help! Let’s get on with it folks!

  1. Don’t litter!  Pay attention to where you throw away your trash.  If you’re near the beach make sure your garbage wont fly into the water.
  2. Teach your friends not to litter too.
  3. Don’t endanger our marine wonderland.  If you’re swimming or snorkeling near the coral reef remember not to touch it, and don’t take anything out from the ocean.
  4. Stay active in your community.  Talk with adults, decision makers and even write letters to politicians and encourage them to take care of the environment.
  5. Celebrate Earth Day on April 22, 2010.  Find a local Earth Day event to share with your friends and family.  Have fun doing your part and taking care of the environment.
  6. Please share your stories with us about the things you might be doing in your communities.  We’d love to hear from you!
